Hey gang.
It’s going to be a short one this week, as I am writing this at the end of a 26-hour trip to New York to attend a wedding.
STAR WARS: HAN SOLO & CHEWBACCA
On Wednesday, we’ll be dropping issue 7 of Han Solo & Chewbacca. Paul Fry, who helped out with the art for issue 6, draws the whole enchilada this time and it just looks gorgeous, particularly with the always-amazing Alex Sinclair coloring. Starwars.com has a preview:
(Damn, that Greedo is fun to write. Never change, buddy.)
You can pre-order Han Solo & Chewbacca #7 at Comixology, your local comic store, or through Forbidden Planet.
THE PASSING OF TITANS
In a year that has already taken the great George Peréz and Neal Adams away from us, this week alone has already seen the passing of three legends in the comic book industry: Kevin O’Neil, Carlos Pacheco, and — just as of this morning — Kevin Conroy.
While I never had the privilege of working with Mr. O’Neil, that’s not the case with Mr. Pacheco and Mr. Conroy. I’ve long been a fan of Carlos’ work, which has always had an elegance and grace to it not often found in super-hero comics. Although we only produced four issues together — a Squadron Sinister tie-in to Marvel’s Secret Wars event — Carlos always spoke so glowingly of the work and of his desire, shared by me in spades, to collaborate again. I regret that we’ll now never have the chance, and that such a warm and talented person has left us
Kevin Conroy, of course, was the voice of Batman and Bruce Wayne in the iconic Batman: The Animated Series. For an entire generation, Kevin was Batman. While we were developing the Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover event for the CW, we discussed the possibility of bringing back an older actor to play “Old Batman.” Keto Shimizu suggested Kevin. The idea was too exciting to let the concern that voice acting is a different exercise than live-action acting, but we needn’t have worried. Kevin was a classically trained actor — an actor’s actor — and was pitch perfect from the second the cameras rolled until wrap. And it didn’t hurt that he’d aged into the part in the intervening years since Batman.
Rest in power, gents.
You just never know when someone important to you will be taken away, so… be good to each other.
Best,
Marc

The Star Wars issue looks stunning!
It’s been a rough year for sure. I’m happy you were able to work with other talented and wonderful people. They’ll never be forgotten.
