Hey gang. Welcome to a mid-week edition of LegalDispatch. Why mid-week? Two reasons: First, as threatened, I missed last Friday because I was traveling with my oldest. We were looking at colleges in Boston, where I’d spent eight very formative years of my life. I hadn’t been back in over 17 years, so returning was quite the surreal experience. I’d actually never spent so much time away from a place I’d previously spent so much time in.
The second reason I’m bombarding your Substack in-box today is that we have a new issue of Han Solo & Chewbacca out ! This is the sixth issue and the start of our second story arc. And considering the fact that I killed off Han Solo in the previous issue, it features the surviving half of our cast, Chewbacca the Wookiee.
Anyways, it’s out today in your local comic book stores and also available digitally on Comixology.
It’s actually appropriate that our second arc officially starts today because today I’m also putting the finishing touches on the epic conclusion (in Issue 10).
WORK UPDATES
In other updates, last week I finished the first draft of the screenplay for Too Dead To Die. Whenever possible, I like to set scripts aside for a few days before embarking on my next pass. I’ll return to that script later this week, but for now my focus is on finishing the script for the aforementioned Han & Chewie 10, revising an outline for PROJECT MARBLE, and finishing a proposal for PROJECT UNDERWORLD. Then, it’s off to New York for New York ComicCon next week.
THIS IS NOT OKAY
Despite the fact that 61% of Americans believe abortion should be legal in most cases, the Supreme Court ignored decades of precedent and stripped away that right.
This is not okay.
Despite the fact that at least 80% of Americans support universal background checks before a gun can be purchased, Republican politicians block such legislation at every turn.
This is not okay.
Despite the fact that America is supposed to be a democracy governed by the will of the majority, a powerful minority is exerting disproportionate influence on our laws and our elections.
This is not okay.
#ThisIsNotOkay is a campaign aimed at calling out and raising awareness of issues like reproductive rights and gun safety where the tyranny of the minority is overwhelming the wishes of the majority.
No doubt, this will be considered “political” by some, but making sure that a democracy functions as a democracy shouldn’t be political. Pointing out instances which are simply “not okay” shouldn’t be political.
Moreover, #ThisIsNotOkay it’s not about supporting any specific political agenda, candidates, or organizations. Rather, its goal is to use traditional and social media to get the word out about, and raise awareness of, things that are, simply, not okay. (For example, a 10 year-old rape victim needing to go out of state to receive an abortion.)
And the best part is that these stories, videos, interviews, etc. are already in the works. The campaign is already half paid for, which means that even a small donation will move the needle. As you know, it’s extremely rare when a contribution can make an immediate impact.

Even better, if you’d like to contribute, you can do so here.
Alrighty. I have to run.
Be good to each other.
Best,
