Howdy from the Javits Convention Center in Manhattan, where I am attempting to get this newsletter out from the comfort of my table in Artist Alley (F37). Let’s see how this goes…
WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME???
In endeavoring to resume a weekly version of this newsletter, it occurs to me to ask you fine folks: What am I doing in these virtual pages that you’d like to see more of? What would you like to see less of? What would you like to see that I’m not doing? Your wish is my mild suggestion…
SO, THIS IS COOL
Last Sunday, John Oliver — in the most random TV moment ever — called out an early episode of Legends of Tomorrow (when the Legends save the life of a young Barack Obama). You can check it out below circa 18:21:
FEEDBACK
Clonegeek asks:
Will we get an update [at New York ComicCon] on Jedi Knights’s future because issue 10’s cover has final issue vibes?
It certainly does. But I’m not trying to be coy. I’m trying, as I think I’ve mentioned, not to make any announcements that are properly Marvel’s to make.
Som Sharma writes:
What was your reaction on Oliver and Dig returning to The Flash Season 9? Honestly, I didn’t like Oliver returned in this capacity since The Flash tv show had gone into not a good direction. Many fans criticized the showrunner including me, many of us weren’t happy with the flash series finale.
To be completely honest, I haven’t watched the episode. I’d had to find out that Oliver and Diggle were going to be on the show from Deadline.com. The Flash showrunner hadn’t even paid me the courtesy of a heads up. It was particularly disappointing because I’d always been above board and forthright with him when we worked on the crossovers together and I had — foolishly, perhaps — expected the same consideration in return.
I miss the Arrowverse a lot looking back on 10 years ago.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate that. I say it with all sincerity: If people like you hadn’t watched the shows, there would have been no shows because they’d have been cancelled.
THE DEATHS OF SPIDER-MAN & WOLVERINE
ScreenRant picked up on something that we only teased at the end of Spider-Man & Wolverine #6 (which came out this week). Specifically, that in Spider-Man & Wolverine #7 we’re officially killing off… Spider-Man & Wolverine.
Don’t believe me? Here’s an exclusive look at an actual page from Spider-Man & Wolverine #7 by Kaare Andrews and [AND THAT’S WHERE I STOPPED ON FRIDAY. AND NOW I’M PICKING THIS UP AT 3:39 PM ON SATURDAY — SO YOU CAN SEE THE KIND OF PROGRESS I’M (NOT) MAKING HERE] Brian Reber.
And, yes, that’s Spider-Man getting decapitated on Page 2:
And the guy doing the decapitating is a brand new character, Arachnix.
This is all in Spider-Man & Wolverine #7, on sale on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
[AND THAT’S WHERE I LEFT OFF ON SATURDAY. WELCOME TO SUNDAY.]
SO YOU WANT TO BE A WRITER…
In the past three weeks, I’ve attended Los Angeles Comic Con and New York ComicCon. I’ve spent a lot of time at my table talking to emerging writers and have noticed something of a trend: They’re only interested in writing licensed properties. For example, one gentleman I spoke to yesterday was clearly only interested in writing for Star Wars — even more specifically, Star Wars stories set during the Old Republic era. And he was incredulous of my assertion that LucasFilm wouldn’t consider a pitch from someone without any prior writing experience. I encouraged him to create his own thing, pointing out that Star Wars itself only exists because George Lucas couldn’t get the rights to Flash Gordon and Indiana Jones was only created because no one would hire Steven Spielberg to direct a James Bond film.
This interaction and others has made me realize that there are a lot of people out there who want to only write a particular thing. And that’s totally fine. But that doesn’t mean they want to be writers. Writers write because they literally cannot do otherwise. They have to tell stories — not just stories owned by corporations. Otherwise, they just want to get paid to write fan fiction. (Not that there’s anything wrong with fan fiction.)
STAR WARS: JAR JAR BINKS
Yesterday at the LucasFilm Publishing panel, we announced a new Star War that I’m writing — actually, co-writing with Ahmed Best. Ahmed is an extremely talented actor best well known for playing Jar Jar Binks in the Star Wars prequels. But Ahmed also invented the role of Jedi Master Kelleran Beq. And I’m excited to say that our story features both characters.
Official description:
This all-new one-shot teams up two iconic characters, Jar Jar Binks from the Prequel Trilogy and Kelleran Beq who has been seen in The Mandalorian as the Jedi who saved young Grogu from the Jedi massacre Order 66 as well as in Marvel’s Jedi Knights #9. This comic is co-written by actor Ahmed Best who starred as both Jar Jar Binks and Kelleran Beq, and writer Marc Guggenheim, showrunner of the TV series Arrow as well as writer of Marvel’s Jedi Knights series.
And I have to say, when it says “co-written,” it really is. We developed the story together, wrote individual scenes of the script, and did passes on each other’s material. Speaking for myself, it was a dream collaboration.
Here’s a look at the covers:
Star Wars: Jar Jar comes to you on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
Be good to each other.
Best,
Marc

WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME???
I'm a bit interested in process. I'm sure it's hard to talk about editorial back-and-forth when you're working with licensed properties... but, say, in brainstorming, did you and Ahmed have different takes on the characters? Were there elements you might have both liked to explore that didn't ultimately it into the story?
That Legends clip just reminds me of the joy that series could bring out at times when things in life weren't always great.... something we need more than ever now. I specifically remember having a really bad day and then the season finale with Beebo vs. Mallus came on and I was grinning ear to ear. Thank you for that.
