Howdy.
Greetings from New York, where I am wrapping up my epic-length trip. It’s been a whirlwind month where I’ve done a lot of things but also missed out on some things I wanted to do (like last Friday’s newsletter). It seems that no matter what coast I may be on, there isn’t enough time in the day.
9/11
Doing anything on the anniversary of 9/11 always feels somewhat sacrilegious to me. This is particularly true when the “anything” is the writing of a newsletter.
This year, I’m especially struck by the fact how many Americans weren’t even alive on that fateful day or, at least, far too young to remember it. It’s strange to think, with the horrors of that day still so inscribed and visceral in my memory that for many, it is merely an event in the past. It is history.
And its reverberations still echo. The events altered our political landscape in fundamental and permanent ways. There’s an argument to be made that you can draw a straight line between 9/11 and the political climate that put Trump in the White House with an opportunity — despite two impeachments and four indictments — to return there in 2024.
I imagine that, like me, it’s been a while since any of you thought of al Qaeda or Osama Bin Laden and that you now locate the threats to our democracy much closer to home. Today’s call is coming from inside the house.
But today isn’t — or shouldn’t — be about politics. People of every political stripe gave or lost their lives that day. I wonder what they would think of our current tribalism. Nothing particularly good, I’d imagine.

WORK UPDATE
I just sent off the script for issue two of PROJECT PRIMAL. This morning, I did my first pass on the lettering for the fourth and final issue of X-Men: Days of Future Past — Doomsday.
