So here’s a funny story.
Well, more like a humorous one.
Make that, mildly amusing.
Two weeks ago I wrote an edition of this newsletter about how I wasn’t going to be at San Diego ComicCon this year.
No, you didn’t miss it. There wasn’t a Substack glitch. I wrote the post, but restarted my MacBook because it was acting widgy and… yeah. The post was gone. I’m sure there’s a way to save draft posts for later publication but I clearly have not mastered it yet.
So why is this funny?
Well, first off, it’s not. It’s mildly amusing, as I said. Second, one of the reasons I had for not going to SDCC was Covid. Here’s how that turned out:
Ah, yes, the best laid plans…
“So how’d you get it if you didn’t go to ComicCon?”
Oh, I went on a Disney Cruise. Here, check out some pictures:
“Waitasecond. You didn’t want to go to SDCC because of Covid, but you went on a CRUISE instead?”
Well, not exactly. You see, many months ago, I made a deal with my youngest, Sara, that if LA Law didn’t get picked up to series, I’d take her on the new Disney ship, the Wish.
And, well, LA Law didn’t get picked up to series, so…
“So it sounds like you didn’t want to go to SDCC because of Covid, but you went on a CRUISE instead.”
No, I chose to honor a promise I made to my daug— Yeah, I guess you’re right.
So here I am, Day 3 of Covid. (I tested positive Monday morning, mere minutes before we stepped off the ship.) The experience has been… not great? I mean, yes, it’s been very uncomfortable — aches, chills, nasal drip, FATIGUE — but I’ve definitely been sicker in my life. Yay vaccines! Yay science!
Last night, however, I had terrible insomnia, which Dr. Google tells me can be related to the Vid. That was fairly awful, I won’t lie. According to my Oura ring, I got 3 hours of sleep, but that’s nowhere near in a row. At present, I feel like a science experiment.
WORK UPDATES
Last week, I turned in the script of Han Solo & Chewbacca #8.
Yesterday, in a Covid fog, I finished the first draft of the outline for my segment of PROJECT MARBLE. (Yes, I’m being mysterious.)
I also wrote a four-page story to go along with PROJECT ENCORE. I think we’re working up to making an announcement about that one soon.
Many folks have advised me to take it easy lest exertion trigger a redoubling of symptoms. Believe it or not, I have been doing my best to follow this advice. I sit at the keyboard for very small jags in-between naps and Netflix watching.
Nevertheless, in addition to polishing the aforementioned PROJECT MARBLE outline, tomorrow I’m going to start in earnest writing the script for a new comic project I’m calling PROJECT CASSANDRA. This will be a 40-page, self-contained story. I’m immensely excited about it. I want to talk more, but can’t until it’s announced, which will be later this month. Swearsies.
THE GRAY MAN
Speaking of Netflix watching, I checked out The Gray Man and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think critics have been far too harsh. Quite frankly, they’ve been unnecessarily snarky. Not every film needs to be To Kill A Mockingbrid. Some films are just MOVIES. They’re popcorn. And The Gray Man is an excellent example of the form.
(And I think the Russos did some very interesting things with drones for this flick. I think we’re only touching the tip of the iceberg here…)
SUBSCRIBERS
Even though this newsletter’s been “dark” for the past few weeks (see above re draft-saving snafu), for some reason, I’ve gotten a lot more subscribers during this fallow period. Normally, most new subscribers come within 48 hours of a post, but that hasn’t been the case over the past few weeks. I have nothing to account for this, but I am grateful people are checking out this humble little newsletter.
So, I just got a ping via email reminding me that I have to answer some questions for the press announcement of PROJECT CASSANDRA (speak of the devil, right?), so I’m gonna jump.
It’s my intention to resume an “every Friday” publication schedule, so I’ll see you in a couple of days.
Be good to each other.
Best,
Marc Guggenheim

Thank you for continuing with the updates even though you’re not feeling well. It’s appreciated very much. I hope you feel better soon. Thanks again for the new information on your projects.
Been enjoying the Han Solo & Chewbacca series. Saw it's now a 10-issue maxi-series. Is that the case?
